I post photos on Instagram on a regular basis showing my coffee and tea drinking habit. Once a month I bundle these and talk about the photos on my blog.
In October I:
» Ate a lot of upside down pie, or tarte tatin. When collecting old boxes at my mother's house I found a recipe my grandmother wrote down for me when I was 9 years old. In her illegible yet tidy handwriting. And it is absolutely delicious. The first time I made it I ate it next to Suke Quto roasted by Headfirst and brewed on V60. I died and went to heaven. The sweet and caramel pear pie was the perfect accompaniment for the sweet, acidic and syrupy Ethiopian coffee.
As a bit of a spoof on this post by Coffeecompany I made Belle bake again. So if you want to make a cake, which is epic with African drip coffee, you can find the recipe here.

» Several years ago I went to Ethiopia. Besides that being amazing, I also brought some coffee berries home with me. From those berries I grew five coffee plants. Those plants were kept alive for 3 years. And then I moved house and they died.
On the one hand I was relieved. I do not have any green fingers to speak of, and the fear of them dying was weighing heavily on my shoulders and also on the shoulders of those I asked to take care of them during the holidays. On the other I was quite sad.
Imagine my surprise when walking through a large plant store that I spotted a small pot labelled 'little room plants' stuffed full with little coffee shrubs. Like 9 coffee babies for less than a euro. Due to the colour of the leaves I suspect a Typica plant (it's hard to see in this picture though), but who knows.
I went and bought it. We'll see how long they survive. The plan now...give them away to people asap...

» I also ran the halve marathon of Amsterdam! Without pain! I think I can now officially say I do no longer have a knee injury! Hurrah! See my joy below.
» A random drip coffee picture. A lovely Kenyan coffee roasted by Nomad Coffee Productions in Barcelona. If you do not know them, get to know them. Buy a ticket to Barcelona. They are worth it.
» I got a new sample roaster! ... Well I did not, but my work did. And I roast on it. Bring on the main season. Coffee samples, I am ready for you. Four-barrelling all the way!
» What October also brought was six new finalists for the Dutch Barista Championship 2015. The pre rounds were hosted at Cocoon Coffee in Nijmegen. And I was honoured enough to be one of the sensory judges. The finals will be in January and I am sure we will get an amazing representative for the 2015 World Barista Championships in Seatle. » Now a picture that has not been posted on my Instagram. As you, the reader, may or may not know I started a new job in August. As of then I am a quality coordinator for green coffee at Trabocca. A green sourcing company. Not only do I receive, grade and sample all the green coffee that crosses the Trabocca desk, but I also occasionally post a picture for them on their brand spanking new Instagram, Facebook or Twitter profiles. This one is one of my favourites and honestly that is mainly because of the perfectly straight and contrast-rich latte art I made. I mean, wouldn't you be proud?
